Rising above the highlands of western Panama, Volcán Barú offers one of the most rewarding trekking experiences in Central America. At 3,475 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in Panama and the only place in the country where, on a clear day, you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea from the summit.

The journey begins in Boquete, a charming mountain town known for coffee plantations and cool climate. From there, hikers ascend through changing ecosystems—lush forest, rocky terrain, and misty cloud forests. The trek can take between six and ten hours depending on pace and route, with many adventurers choosing a nighttime hike to reach the summit at sunrise.
Reaching the top is a powerful moment. As dawn breaks, golden light stretches across two coastlines, revealing the dramatic geography of Panama’s narrow land bridge. It is an experience that blends physical challenge with emotional reward.

Beyond the hike itself, the Boquete region offers eco-lodges, waterfall trails, and birdwatching tours. Coffee farm visits provide insight into sustainable agricultural practices, while nearby cloud forests shelter rare species like the resplendent quetzal.
Volcán Barú is more than a hike—it is a symbol of Panama’s natural diversity. For eco-travelers, the experience combines adventure, scenic grandeur, and environmental appreciation in one unforgettable journey.
